No missed calls: In defence of a fallen soldier

The vilification of his actions was thorough and precise: "that man fought the evil fight and died an evil death". "History is always written by the victor" said Niccolo Machiavelli. This explains why this man has been made into a beast. Touche oh victor, his memory has been been crushed. He is despised by most and there is not a single missed call on his phone.

Now who will cry for this fallen soldier ? A man who fell for what he believed in. Who will shed a tear for the one that dared to unite and fight under a different type of ideology? . Who will remember his courage and innovation in the most difficult and trying times ?. Who will point out the fact that although he thought differently, His fight was exactly the same ? Who Will tell the youth that no single person can hold the monopoly of "Liberty" nor the definition of right and wrong?. "The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently"- Nietzsche

A true soldier never goes to war to fight but to win. however, in order to win, they are very often forced to fight. The same is the case with this fallen soldier as he has been forced to fight in a desperate bid to win the war. His enemies unfortunately gained the upper hand and he fell believing in the doctrine that he stood for. Who is he ?
He is Mao, he is Karl Marx, He is Stanley "Tookie" Williams, He is Carlo Gambino, He is Fidel Castro, He Che Guevara, He is Michael McKevitt, He is Gideon Orkar, He is Attila the Hun, He is Maximilien Robespierre, He is Ayatollah Khomeini, He could be you and he very much could be me. Even if we dont understand these fallen soldiers, the least we can do is respect them.

Hi Owi. This piece was breath taking. You know it might sound funny but you have not just changed my perception towards life but you have also made me look at rap music in a different light. How ? Well i have always considered all forms of hiphop to be extremely shallow and downgrading to women and was surprised to see that you listen to rap on your blogger profile. You even look pretty hiphop in physical appearance(No offense intended) and could not reconcile your physical image with the beautiful stuff you wrote just because of my bias towards rap. However i Dug a little deeper and discovered deep philosophical rappers that just blew my mind away [including killah priest :)] . Keep doing what you do.

I`m sorry but all i see here is an article trying to humanize some of the most evil people on planet earth. Ayatollah ??? . You have got to be kidding me. Well i guess you left out hitler and pol pot. There are some things you dont just do my friend and one of them is ask people to respect a man as evil as Ayatollah and Attila the hun. That is a line you just dont cross

It take an immense amount of knowledge to understand that you must respect those who differ with you. This article was pure wisdom.
blessed for that Owi

The dusty brown pages of the history books have left us a one sided account. For some, its the only account they can see, for most, it's the only account they have chosen to see. Rewrite the History books one may say . . . but will we be willing to read them???

Hello Pam. Thanks for your comment .. Conscious rap has actually had quite a significant impact on my life and the way i think and write. Dont be fooled by the 50 cents out there, they pretty much have a different objective which is just to make money and i can respect that but i cant relate to it. Real hiphop always has a strong and uncomfortable message. Cheers :)

Am sorry you feel that way Mr anonymous. The last thing i wanted to do was to send out that kind of message. But try looking at it like this: what if the axis forces had defeated the allies in WW2 ? what will the world be like today ? first the super powers would have been Italy, Germany and Japan, and the only stories of heroic military endeavors we will hear would be those of the Germans, Japanese, Romanians, Italians etc. There will be no stories about the daring landings on Normandy and Omaha beaches, nothing about the valor of the Australian soldiers in papua new Guinea nor would we have heard anything said about the brave African soldiers who died halting Hitlers advance into north Africa.

That is all i am trying to say. Try to look at things from a balanced perceptive ..

Cheers

hey owi .With my typically Conventional mind as you put it id just like yo say... ..Although am a philosophically illiterate person and i hardly know half of the FALLEN soldiers you mentioned there , who also am sure fell and now are known by you ,me and the rest for the battles they fought..
and if your actually referring to people such as Ayatollah and Fidel Castro.
why should you leave out people who are called the Prophets...they were people too...and they fought for the beliefs during their time..they fell LOW and Rose high we heard their names referring them to as"people who have done something so remarkable in their life's that changed everyone else s life around them" ..

PAM: AM ALL WITH YOU.i had the same feeling in the beginning but when i started listening RAP music with a message behind it...seriously it blew my mind too..except for the F and B words which is fine until they become part of you when you start speaking.its okay when your with your friends..Embarrassing when you start to become expressive and little comfortable with your language in the office ..ANyway my point is OWI has been very influential in this regard...hes one among the gods very own special little people with a SMART BRAIN ..which is so hard to SYNC with

Hey Owi :) .. I think you basically have two broad mind sets when you write: The personal and crazy mind set which appears to come from deep within you and is very difficult to understand eg: blasphemy,an unkindness of ravens, the evil. The second is the critical and much more intellectual mindset which seems to come from amazing analysis and independent thinking eg: No missed calls, from the tomb of an insane mad man. Quite frankly I am overwhelmed by both sides and by the fact that both modes of thinking can come from the same person. I however slightly prefer the latter mode of writing as it shows a very different perspective and outlook on life. Keep them coming !!
